Little Chicks in one, two, three…
This one’s so easy but so cute! Here are detailed and complete instructions: 1. Hard boil an egg. 2. Make face 3. Everyone loves them! 4. Baking Paper Lanterns is our Tip of the Day

Baking Paper Lanterns
Scribble … and Glow!
Here’s a fantastic tip from Germany which will add a little extra sparkle to your kitchen! Some baking paper – yes, the stuff you line your cake tin with – plus some crayons and imagination will bring your pictures to life. Just snip out a length of baking paper (measure first or you won’t have enough) and create a picture or story from the brightest colours you can, and you’ll find they’re ten times brighter with a little candle inside. You’ll need a little bit of sticky tape once you’re done, and then you’re away. Try creating a mini-story that reads round the lantern as it’s made. (Disclaimer: please don’t leave children alone with candles!) via [herz-allerliebst]

How to: Baking… without the Oven?

Oven-free baking with these coconut cakes
Oven-free baking with these coconut cakes
If you’re nervous having small children around the oven (and who isn’t) then this rather jolly recipe we’ve found is just the thing. Apparently they sell these at Honeyduke’s sweet shop in Hogsmeade (if you don’t know where that is, do please google it!) so there a perfect accessory if you’re planning a Harry Potter Party. Now if we can just work out how to make Every Flavour Beans…. via [squidoo]

This is what Peppa and George look like before being gobbled up.

Peppa and George, yum yum yum.
At Party Ark we like to think we’re a dab-hand with the old icing sugar, but absolutely no force on earth could generate the talent we’d need to create this little masterpiece. We love the attention to detail: the tiny sandwiches and cakes look too good to spoil! But this masterpiece was done for a three year old, who we like to think took enormous pleasure in eating the whole thing up. (If you can’t stretch to doing everything yourself, we have some super Peppa Pig Party accessories to  go with your party.) via [ateliersurcreme]

We’re gearing up for Easter here are Party Ark, which this year is on the last day of March. Meanwhile, we have lots of super new themes and we’re sure there’s something for everyone.

We’re still excited by the discovery of Richard III, and in that spirit today we are celebrating the 497th Birthday of that unfortunate monarch Mary Tudor who, like Richard, also sprung from the Yorkist tree.

Bloody Mary is now best remembered for being the antithesis of her sister Good Queen Bess, but here’s some things you may not know:

  • She was forced to be Elizabeth’s maid by her stepmother Anne Boleyn, while her father King Henry VIII stripped her of her titles and refused to call her Princess.
  • Mad monarch Henry VIII condemned Mary’s favourite governess to death essentially for being a Catholic.
  • She was engaged at the age of two to the heir to the French throne, and then to Charles King of Spain when she was six. She ended up marrying Charles’ son Philip, who was ghastly, and lost Calais which was also ghastly.
  • Mary wanted Mary Queen of Scots to succeed her and insisted that her sister Elizabeth’s real father was a lute player called Mark Smeaton.
  • Mary is buried in the same tomb as her sister in Westminster Abbey, something neither wished but is rather apt. Their tomb reads: “Consorts in realm and in tomb, here we sleep, Elizabeth and Mary, sisters, in hope of resurrection”.

We’re continuing with our 10% Off Voucher until the end of the week – you can use it on the basket page – just type in EBH153 and it should all work nicely.

We’re tremendously excited by the news of the discovery of Richard III’s body, because Richard was born very close to the Party Ark Offices in Fotheringhay.

For those of you who’ve missed this news – good news – we’ve put together a condensed resumé of events:

  • Slightly eccentric amateur sleuth Phillippa Langley stands in a Leicester car park and has a sense that Richard is buried under Bay R (for Richard, or Rex or something, it’s not explained…)
  • She persuades fellow Richard fans to part with £10,000 to dig up the car park. She hires the services of a professional forensic specialist.
  • Together they almost immediately discover a skeleton and almost straight away the specialist accidentally manages to put a mattock through its scull.
  • Nevertheless, convinced that she has found Richard III, Phillippa drapes the cardboard box containing its remains with a Plantagenet Flag. Everyone else looks a bit embarrassed.
  • From now on it’s like Phillippa’s lottery numbers come up in very slow succession.
  • Carbon dating suggests the skeleton is from the correct period…
  • Archaeologists confirm that by a million-to-one shot Phillippa has dug in just the right part of the long-extinct ancient Blackfriars monastery…
  • The skeleton has severe curvature of the spine just like the legend Richard III
  • Forensic boffins confirm the skeleton was killed in battle with vicious head wounds from axes and daggers…
  • The last living Plantagenet has his DNA tested – and it’s a match.

But best of all, the entire episode was filmed by Horrible Histories favourite Simon Farnaby. We were rather hoping that on confirmation that Richard’s final ignaminity was being parked upon for decades by the denizens of Leicester Social Services he would break into an impromptu rendition of Stupid Deaths….

We’re so excited and pleased that here’s a 10% Off Voucher that you can use on the basket page – just type in EBH153 and it should all work nicely.
