So just as we have the exciting news of a Royal birth, the heavens open and most of the UK has a mega-thunderstorm. But – fear not! Those of you who made the most of your French exchange at school will remember that un coup de foudre – literally lightening strike – is the frankish phrase for love at first sight. (If you’re more mediterranean in desire, go with colpo di fulmine.) Thus the Party Ark augers pronounce that the storm was a definite sign of good fortune for the Fresh Prince of Bel-gravia.
The little lad was born on the same day as his distant ancestor Philip the Handsome, who was King of Castile in Spain, which sets a good precedent for a first name; it is also the name of his great-grandfather, everyone’s favourite Lord High Admiral, The Prince Philip.
A quick whip-round the office has so far pulled up Jackson, Justin and Barack as possible names, but we’re sticking with Philip. Other famous Philips related to the baby Prince are King Philip the Bold of France, and his descendents Philip the Fair, Philip the Tall and Philip the Fortuntate (who doesn’t seem to have been very fortunate at all, getting thumped by the English in the Hundred Year’s War.) In our opinion you can’t have too many Prince Philips.
We’re very fond of good news of any sort, so we’re continuing with our big Summer Sale discount until the baby’s name is announced! Use code EBV162 on the basket page for your discount.
